High-Density Rock Wool Boards With Stable Performance For Power Plant Pipe Insulation

Rock wool boards are produced using natural minerals like basalt as raw materials. The rocks are melted at high temperatures, then spun into fibers via centrifugal force. The density of rock wool board is the key indicator determining its performance and application. Products with different densities show significant differences in strength, insulation properties, and cost. High-density rock wool boards have a density of 120-200 kg/m³. In power plant facility insulation, rock wool boards offer more precise alignment with the core demands of high temperatures, high safety standards, and high durability in power plants compared to common insulation materials such as polyurethane foam, glass wool, and extruded polystyrene (XPS) boards. Their advantages are primarily reflected in following key dimensions.

Excellent Performance

The fibers are tightly interwoven, with low shrinkage rate at high temperatures, and the fire resistance rating can reach 2-4 hours, making them suitable for long-term load-bearing or high-temperature environments. They also have strong aging resistance and weathering resistance, with a long service life (usually ≥20 years). Their advantages include high strength and high stability, making them usable as load-bearing insulation materials suitable for scenarios with high requirements for structural strength. Our products have outstanding fire resistance and safety, being not easily deformed at high temperatures, making them ideal materials for firewalls and fire barriers. Meanwhile, they have good weather resistance, being able to be directly exposed to the outdoors (for a short period) or humid environments, such as underground garages, without additional reinforcement.

Insulation Efficiency and Cost-effectiveness

At room temperature, rock wool’s thermal conductivity (0.036–0.042 W/(m·K)) is slightly higher than polyurethane’s. But above 200°C, organic materials’ conductivity spikes sharply, while rock wool’s remains stable. Despite costing 20–30% more upfront than glass wool, rock wool lasts 15–20 years with minimal maintenance—proving cheaper long-term than polyurethane (5–8 years) and glass wool (3–5 years), both of which need frequent replacement.

Adaptability and Sound Insulation

Rock wool can be shaped into curves, pipe casings, and other forms to fit irregular equipment like pipelines and boilers snugly, reducing thermal bridging. Its fibrous structure absorbs 80–90% of high-frequency noise, outperforming polyurethane and XPS (30–50% absorption). Glass wool absorbs sound well too, but its fibers shed easily and require extra protective layers.
